Christmas is just around the corner, and for many that means we are accepting the fact that the scale will read 5-10 pounds heavier on January 1st. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Courtesy of Barnes Bariatric Surgical Solutions here are a few tips on how to eat healthy during the holidays.
Losing weight during the holidays just isn’t going to happen. The holiday season is a time to celebrate with family and friends. Enjoy this time, don’t punish yourself by completely avoiding all of those goodies on the table. Instead just set the goal of maintaining your current weight.
Exercise
Plan time for exercise. Exercise helps relive holiday stress and prevent weight gain. A moderate and daily increase in exercise can help partially offset increased holiday eating.
Don’t Skip Meals
Skipping meals is the number one way to NOT lose weight. Before leaving for a party eat a light snack like raw veggies or a piece of fruit to curb your appetite and make you much less likely to over indulge.
Portion Control
Just don’t eat until you’re stuffed, eat until you are satisfied. Savor your favorite holiday treats while eating small portions. Just sit down, be comfortable and enjoy.
Take the Focus Off the Food
Turn candy and cookie making time into non-edible projects like making wreaths, dough art decorations. Or you can plan group activities with family and friends that aren’t about food. Play board games or go on a walking tour of decorated homes.
These are just a few ways to help you avoid the over-indulgence that comes with the holiday season. For more information about the professionals at Barnes Bariatric Surgical Solutions visit http://www.barnesweightlosssurgery.com
